Ebook About
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Features a new introduction on the origins of the Will Trent novels and Triptych’s place in the series From Atlanta’s wealthiest suburbs to its stark inner-city housing projects, a killer has crossed the boundaries of wealth and race. And the people who are chasing him must cross those boundaries, too. Among them is Michael Ormewood, a veteran detective whose marriage is hanging by a thread—and whose arrogance and explosive temper are threatening his career. And Angie Polaski, a beautiful vice cop who was once Michael’ s lover before she became his enemy. But unbeknownst to both of them, another player has entered the game: a loser ex-con who has stumbled upon the killer’s trail in the most coincidental of ways—and who may be the key to breaking the case wide open. In this gritty, gripping firecracker of a novel, the author of the bestselling Grant County, Georgia, series breaks thrilling new ground, weaving together the threads of a complex, multilayered story with the skill of a master craftsman. Packed with body-bending switchbacks, searing psychological suspense and human emotions, Triptych ratchets up the tension one revelation at a time as it races to a shattering and unforgettable climax.

Book Triptych: A Novel (Will Trent Book 1) Review :

First and foremost: sensitive readers beware. This novel is very descriptive regarding crime scenes, and there’s also flagrant language in terms of both curse words and crass colloquialisms. Most of the victims are also young, 14-16, and there’s also brief mention of a potentially unrelated victim that’s 10 years old. Rape is discussed regularly (one of the killer’s MOs). Had I’d fully known all of this (my mistake for not reading far enough into the book’s sample and going mainly by the high ratings and intriguing premise), I probably would have passed; because I paid $10 and because the novel is well-written in terms of grammar and styling, I decided to finish the story.Part one lays the groundwork for what’s to come. As others have mentioned, there is a twist. Part 2 (enter John Shelley, around 70 pages in) is where I got more invested. I got a sense that John, despite his ex-con status, was going to be someone I rooted for, and that there was obviously more to the story. Basically, though, if you’re a sensitive reader and you figured you could handle what I discussed in the first paragraph, what is covered in part 2 is probably enough to seal the deal that you shouldn’t read this novel. The story is VERY detailed in describing what happened to John as a teenage boy in a prison full of hardened, violent criminals/predators. John was in prison for 20 years, and it was obviously a brutal experience.By the time you get to part three, there’s been a couple more new developments (one I saw coming, one was a bit more surprising). At around 200 pages, I figured I knew pretty much everything and was just waiting to see the scenarios play out. I was right in that there were no more surprises for me (a couple twisty elements, but I figured them out before they were revealed). Some of the chapters were long (up to 30 mins, according to my kindle), but I found that most chapters went quickly because they were interesting. I ended up reading almost 300 pages in one day to get to the conclusion of the story.Though the novel was predominately dark and disturbing, I still would have given 4 stars had there been more coverage on the resolve for John Shelley. He had been through so much, it would have been nice to see how justice played out. Will Trent is a multi-faceted character, and I can see how it would be interesting to see his take on scenarios in future novels. However, because of the gruesome nature of the author’s writing in this tale, I don’t think I’ll try anymore in the series.
Will Trent is introduced in this series shortly into the book. But first readers are introduced to a different main character Michael Ormewood. This first perspective had me intrigued and kept me reading well into the night. The book was written from several character perspectives and gives the reader a chance to figure out the puzzle as the characters are. I enjoyed the different works colliding and seeing things from different angles. Will Trent is a GBI agent is assigned to assist Michael on murder case that shows similarity to two brutal rape cases he's already working. The two begin working together, despite a conflict of personalities, and end up at several dead ends. Will and Michael both consult with a female undercover officer working vice and use clues she discovers to lead both of them on very different quests. Add in the convicted child rapist John Shelley and things get interesting fast.I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait to continue on in the series. This book would make a great movie! One of the better books I've read in a long time.
